Digitalisation Roadmap

The Automotive Council Digitalisation Roadmap will develop the roadmap for the implementation of digital technologies needed to accelerate the UK automotive sector’s ability to innovate, engineer and manufacture the next generation of highly complex products better, faster and cheaper.

Overview

The project will be delivered over a period of nine months and we plan on engaging with as many people as possible from across multiple sectors alongside the Automotive Industry, to capture best practice.

The Digitalisation Roadmap will replace the previous Virtual Product Engineering Roadmap.

Industry Survey Winners

Thank you to all the 100 plus people who completed our survey, contributing to the creation of the roadmap. We are delighted to announce the winners of our survey prize draw, which took place in January of this year. Enjoy your tour of the McLaren Technology Centre later in the year and many thanks to the team there for making this possible!

We are now nearing the launch of the Digitalisation Roadmap project so please look out for details of our launch event taking place in March.

Engaging with industry

The process of the roadmap has included three ongoing key engagement activities:

Interactive workshops

Industry wide survey

1-2-1 Interview campaigns

More information on these activities can be found below.

If you are interested in receiving the final roadmap report being launched mid-March, please use the contact form provided at the bottom of the page.

Interactive workshops

A series of workshops have been held, covering three key themes:

Digital Engineering Environment

Process and Assurance

Co-creative Infrastructure and Environment

These were fully interactive, using a variety of online and in-person engagement methods. A variety of topics were covered including:

Artificial Intelligence

Interoperability

Digital Approvals and Certification

Lifecycle and Change Management

Cybersecurity and Ontology

Industry wide survey

As part of our wider engagement, a cross-sectoral survey has been conducted to understand the current level of knowledge and capability of UK manufacturing in the deployment of digitalisation within product development processes. The survey is a key part of our research and has captured insights from various sectors in the industry.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate. The results will be shared with all participants and published on our website at the start of the new year. Stay tuned...

1-2-1 Interview campaigns

A campaign of interviews with teams from across the automotive, manufacturing and academic sectors has been conducted, These have helped help inform and contextualise our discussions during workshops, shared best practice from other sectors to support our plans, and provided additional supporting information for presentation on the roadmap.
